A poorly designed recovery tool can trigger the chargebacks it claims to prevent, by retrying actively disputed cards, for example. Aria detects these situations in real time and immediately stops any high-risk attempt. Five independent layers keep your Stripe account under the critical threshold, including a circuit breaker that pauses everything if your global chargeback rate approaches the limit.

The threshold you cannot cross

Stripe places any account that exceeds a 0.75% chargeback rate over a reference period under monitoring. Beyond that, it's account suspension, meaning complete payment processing shutdown. For a store that depends on Stripe, that's business stopped overnight. That's exactly why Aria includes comprehensive chargeback protection, it's not optional.

Layer 1

Detection of actively disputed cards

Aria monitors 12 Stripe hard decline codes, including 5 "active dispute" codes (fraudulent, revocation_of_authorization, revocation_of_all_authorizations, stop_payment_order, transaction_not_allowed). These codes signal that a customer has declared their card stolen, revoked their mandate, or blocked the merchant: retrying means a near-guaranteed chargeback. Aria stops everything immediately on those subscriptions.

Direct Stripe API fallback if gateway metadata doesn't contain the decline_code, no blind spots.

Layer 2

Real-time webhook + multi-sub ban

Stripe charge.dispute.created webhook connected in real time: if a customer opens a dispute on just one of their subscriptions, Aria detects it within seconds and automatically bans all their other subscriptions. One dispute = global opposition signal against the merchant. Daily Stripe polling as a fallback if the webhook isn't configured.
